Colourful Facades: The exterior walls of the houses are generally painted in pastel tones, with the wooden details around windows and doors highlighted in different colours. This vibrant palette gives Odunpazarı its unique and lively atmosphere.

Rising in Eskişehir’s historic Odunpazarı district, the Odunpazarı Modern Museum (OMM) offers a captivating blend of contemporary art and innovative architecture. This award-winning building, designed by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma and his partner Yuki Ikeguchi, draws inspiration from the wooden architecture of traditional Odunpazarı houses, reinterpreted in a modern style. Architecturally a work of art in its own right, OMM opened its doors in 2019, establishing Eskişehir as an important destination for modern art.

The architecture of OMM references Odunpazarı’s distinctive narrow and winding streets and its wooden bay-windowed houses. Its design, resembling stacked wooden boxes, harmonizes with the traditional texture while offering a contemporary aesthetic. The interiors feature spacious and airy galleries that skillfully utilize natural light to showcase the artworks in the best possible way. The museum’s collection focuses on modern and contemporary art pieces selected from Erol Tabanca’s private collection. Housing works from various disciplines such as painting, sculpture, digital art, and installations, OMM features pieces by leading Turkish artists as well as international creators. The collection is further enriched by constantly updated temporary exhibitions, offering visitors a different experience with each new visit.
